A Perth Glory player has tested positive for COVID-19 ahead of Saturday’s Isuzu Ute Men’s A-League game against Brisbane Roar.
As the situation unfolds, the Glory squad are confined to their hotel rooms in Brisbane but at this stage, the fixture will go ahead.
A statement issued to the media confirmed the positive test, with more information to follow.
The club is currently working closely with Queensland Health and Australian Professional Leagues (APL) to ensure the health and safety of all its players and staff as its top priority.
Glory are currently negotiating a horror run of eight consecutive away games that is likely to blow out to twelve due to current border restrictions. They face the possibility of not playing at home until February when Western Australia reopens to the rest of the country.
However, today’s news throws an additional spanner in the works as Glory are due to travel to South Australia to take on Adelaide United in a week’s time. That trip is unlikely to go ahead, with the squad instead relocating to either New South Wales or Victoria where they could be joined by family members over Christmas.
Richard Garcia’s pre-game press conference, scheduled for 11am WST on Thursday, was cancelled by the club.
